LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: a walk / short bus or car ride away

Right on Our Doorstep: Local Gems

One of the best things about staying at Hope Valley Holidays is our location. You don’t need to drive for hours to find adventure; some of the Peak District’s most famous sites are just a short walk, bus ride, or 10-minute drive away.

Peveril Castle

Distance: 10 mins drive / 25 mins bus Towering over the village of Castleton, these imposing 11th-century ruins offer a glimpse into Norman history. The climb to the top is a bit of a workout, but the reward is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Hope Valley that you won’t find anywhere else.

Top Tip: Check out the visitor center at the bottom for fascinating displays before you start your ascent.

Blue John & Treak Cliff Caverns

Distance: 12 mins drive / Bus to Castleton + short walk Castleton is the only place on Earth where the rare, semi-precious Blue John stone is found. Head deep underground to explore these stunning natural caves and see the “veins” of purple and yellow stone still in the rock. It’s a subterranean world that feels like another planet!

The “Devil’s Arse” (Peak Cavern) – Live Music & Events

Distance: 10 mins drive Known locally by its ancient name, the Devil’s Arse, Peak Cavern has one of the largest cave entrances in the UK. While the daytime tours are great, the real magic happens at night. The cavern is a world-class natural concert venue—look out for their legendary Christmas Carol concerts or summer rock and tribute gigs.

Check their schedule for 2026 events; there’s nothing quite like hearing live music echoing through a cave!

Longshaw Estate (National Trust)

Distance: 10 mins drive / Bus 272 If you’re looking for a classic Peak District landscape, Longshaw is the place. It’s perfect for a gentle afternoon stroll through ancient woods and meadows. From here, you can walk down into Padley Gorge to see the tumbling waterfalls and “fairytale” oak trees.

Facilities: There is a lovely National Trust cafe for a post-walk scone!

Relax at Losehill House Spa

Distance: 8 mins drive Need a bit of holiday pampering? Losehill House is tucked away in a quiet lane nearby and offers a luxurious spa experience. You can book in for a “Spa Day” to use their heated indoor pool, sauna, and—best of all—the outdoor hot tub with views looking right back across the valley toward Win Hill.

The Hope Show (August Bank Holiday)

Distance: 5 mins drive / 25 min walk If you are visiting us in late August, the Hope Show is a must. Held on Monday, August 31st, 2026, it is one of the biggest traditional agricultural shows in the country. From prize-winning livestock and heavy horses to local food stalls and craft tents, it’s a brilliant, bustling day out for the whole family.

Travel Tip: The 272 Bus

The 272 bus runs regularly between Sheffield and Castleton, stopping very near the campsite entrance. It’s a stress-free way to visit the caverns and Peveril Castle without worrying about village parking!
