A Foodie’s Guide to the Hope Valley

One of the best parts of staying with us is the incredible variety of food on our doorstep.

From traditional country pubs with roaring fires to award-winning delis and spicy curries, you won’t go hungry!

Just a Short Stroll Away

No need for a designated driver! We are lucky to have two fantastic options within easy walking distance of the site:

The Bike & Boot: A modern, vibrant hub perfect for a relaxed bite. It’s incredibly dog-friendly (they even have a dog wash!) and serves great pizzas, burgers, and craft ales.

The Travellers Rest: A classic, cozy Derbyshire pub. Expect a warm welcome, hearty home-cooked meals, and a great selection of local beers. It’s the perfect place to refuel after a day on the hills.

In and Around Bamford

The Anglers Rest: A unique, community-owned pub in the heart of the village. It houses a cafe and a post office alongside the bar—truly the heart of Bamford!

Hathersage (2 Miles Away)

A bustling village with a high-end feel and plenty of choices:

The George: A stunning historic coaching inn. If you’re looking for a more “gastro-pub” experience with refined British classics, this is the place to go.

Coleman’s Deli: A local legend! Perfect for grabbing a gourmet coffee, a freshly made sandwich, or a traybake for your afternoon hike.

The Little’s Fish & Chips: Because no holiday is complete without a chippy tea by the river!

Maazi Curry House: Craving a spice fix? Maazi offers authentic, high-quality Indian cuisine. It’s a local favorite and perfect for a sit-down meal or a takeaway to bring back to the site.

Hope Village (1.5 Miles Away)

The Cheshire Cheese Inn: A charming 16th-century pub full of character. It’s famous for its cozy atmosphere and top-tier pub grub.

Two pubs, the Old Hall Hotel and The Woodroofe are both centrally located in the village, offering pub food and busy atmosphere’s.

The Grasshopper Cafe: A bright, friendly spot for breakfast or lunch. Their cakes are spectacular, and it’s a great place to plan your day over a flat white.

Curry Cabin: A bit of a theme here, we love a curry! Curry Cabin offers delicious eat in and takeaway options.

Castleton (3 Miles Away)

Castleton’s Tea Rooms: You’ll be spoiled for choice here! The village is packed with traditional tea rooms serving classic Derbyshire cream teas.

Casltton Pubs: So many to pick from! All offer a great welcome and easy walking distance from the bus terminal if you need to jump on the bus to get back!

Top Tips for Our Guests:

Booking is Best: Our local pubs are very popular, especially on weekends and during school holidays. We always recommend calling ahead to book a table!

Dog Friendly: Most of the pubs listed above (especially the Bike & Boot and The Travellers) will welcome your four-legged friends with open arms. Note that the curry houses don’t have dog friendly eating areas.

Takeaway: Many of the restaurants in Hope and Hathersage offer takeaway options if you’d prefer to eat under the stars back at the campsite.

A Scenic Drive: Destination Dining

If you fancy a short drive through some of the Peak District’s most stunning scenery, these three spots are well worth the trip. Whether you’re after a sophisticated cocktail, a sunset pint, or an award-winning dinner, these are our top recommendations:

The Barrel Inn, Bretton

Distance: 15 mins drive Perched high on a ridge, The Barrel Inn is a historic 17th-century pub that feels like it’s on top of the world. On a clear day, you can see across five counties!

The Vibe: Traditional, rustic, and cozy with low beams and stone walls.

Why go? It is the highest pub in Derbyshire. It’s the ultimate spot for a sunset drink on the patio or a hearty “proper” pub lunch by the fire. It’s quintessential Peak District.

The Blind Bull, Little Hucklow

Distance: 15-20 mins drive Recently restored and gaining a huge reputation, The Blind Bull is a beautiful 12th-century inn that blends ancient history with modern, high-end dining.

The Vibe: Sophisticated yet relaxed. It’s a “gastropub” in the truest sense, featuring a creative, seasonal menu and an excellent wine and cocktail list.

Why go? For the foodies! If you want a memorable dinner that’s a step up from standard pub fare, this hidden gem in the quiet village of Little Hucklow is a must-visit.

Losehill House Hotel & Spa, Hope

Distance: 10 mins drive Tucked away at the very end of a quiet lane with no through-traffic, Losehill House offers a peaceful, luxurious escape from the hustle and bustle.

The Vibe: Modern luxury with incredible floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over Win Hill and Hope Valley.

Why go? This is your destination for afternoon tea or cocktails. Their Grafene restaurant also offers award-winning fine dining. It’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a glass of fizz while soaking in the most tranquil views in the valley.

Top Tip for the Trip:

The drive to Bretton (for The Barrel Inn) takes you up some steep, winding lanes with incredible views—make sure you have your camera ready for the “Surprise View” as you climb out of the valley!
